FAISALABAD/ISLAMABAD: At least two policemen died in a hit-and-run incident in Faisalabad due to dense smog.
According to details, an oil tanker – in a bid to avoid collision with a car coming from the opposite direction – ran over two policemen on a motorcycle near Satiana Road. The two policemen died on the spot, while the oil tanker driver fled.
Meanwhile, dense and shallow patches of fog and smog continued to blanket Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad divisions, where people have been complaining of breathing difficulties and soar eyes during the past few days.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the foggy and smoggy conditions will die down after rain; however, dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during the next couple of days.
The northwestern upper parts, including Lower Dir, Saidu Sharif and Malam Jabba, received rain the other day, with light snowfall was witnessed in Skardu, Hunza and Kalat, bringing down mercury to the freezing point.
Meanwhile, the M2 Motorway remained closed from Lahore to Sial Morr for five hours on Saturday due to dense fog. Similarly, M3 was also closed for traffic from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad, where visibility reduced to zero in the morning. On the other hand, M4 also remained closed from Faisalabad to Gojra.
A motorway police spokesman has advised the public to avoid unnecessary journey and use fog lights while on the motorway.
He further advised citizens to avoid speeding and use of cell phones while driving, especially in foggy conditions.
